Margaret Kepley is currently a MA student in International Educational Development with a focus in peace and human rights education at Teachers College in Columbia University. She joins VOICES as the leader of the evaluation and testing team leader. Margaret first became interested in youth radicalization while working as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in rural Slovakia.From 2018-2020, she worked as a teacher trainer with Peace Corps in Uganda, where she developed an interest in teacher professional development and monitoring and evaluation


“The Invent to Prevent program provided an opportunity to take the theories and knowledge I have gained as a teacher and while studying at Teachers College and directly apply to support fellow teachers in real time. This past year, we have seen a raise in targeted violence and domestic terrorism, being able to participate in this program has been a rather healing experience for our entire team. As it has given us with the space to create a course which can have significant impact on teachers and students.” - Margaret


VOICES aims to empower educators to counter bias in schools by equipping them with the appropriate tools and knowledge. Personally, this is the professional development course that I wish I had when teaching in rural Slovakia, as my high school students began to join far-right extremist groups. Based on our initial survey of US educators, I am not alone, with 3/4 of the educators saying they often witness bias from students. Our survey demonstrated a real need and desire for a professional development opportunity, like VOICES. Teachers play such a critical and influential
